HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 309
Celebrating the life of the Honorable David A. Melesco.

WHEREAS, the Honorable David A. Melesco, a distinguished attorney and judge, esteemed public servant, and active and beloved member of the Franklin County community, died on September 26, 2023; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from San Lorenzo High School in 1963, David Melesco attended Weber State University, where he played football, and then earned a bachelor's degree from The George Washington University in 1967 and a juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia three years later; and

WHEREAS, David Melesco practiced law in Rocky Mount for 25 years, working tirelessly to secure favorable outcomes for his clients; and

WHEREAS, David Melesco was appointed in 1994 to serve as a juvenile and domestic relations district court judge for the 22nd Judicial District, taking great care to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families in Danville and Pittsylvania and Franklin Counties; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, David Melesco was appointed to serve on the circuit court bench for the 22nd Judicial District, judging civil and criminal cases with exceptional probity and fairness up to his retirement from the judgeship in 2012; and

WHEREAS, David Melesco faithfully served the citizens of Franklin County as a member of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors, striving indefatigably to make the locality a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, beyond his work as a judge and public servant, David Melesco gave generously of his time to his community and the Commonwealth as a youth soccer and basketball coach, a member of a statewide committee to prevent domestic violence, and a member of the Virginia State Bar's disciplinary board; and

WHEREAS, David Melesco supported institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth through his service on the Board of Visitors at James Madison University and the University of Virginia athletic board; and

WHEREAS, guided and inspired throughout his life by his faith, David Melesco enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rocky Mount for many years; and

WHEREAS, David Melesco will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 36 years, Ceceilia; his children, Todd, Cameron, Clark, Alex, and John, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Honorable David A. Melesco, a treasured member of the Franklin County community whose legacy of service was an inspiration to all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Honorable David A. Melesco as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
