WHEREAS, Mark Roller, who has admirably led the Strasburg High School football team as its head coach since 2008, retired from coaching in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Mark Roller graduated from Strasburg High School in 1989, where he was a three-sport athlete and helped lead the football team to back-to-back state finals in 1988 and 1989; and
WHEREAS, Mark Roller's high school coaching career has spanned 30 years, including four years as an assistant coach at Sherando High School in Frederick County and 16 years at Strasburg High School as head coach; and
WHEREAS, during Mark Roller's tenure as head coach of the Strasburg Rams, the team made 12 playoff appearances, including 10 consecutive appearances, and advanced to the regional championship game in both the spring of 2021 and the fall of 2022; and
WHEREAS, in 2022, Mark Roller's second to last season with the team, the Strasburg Rams won the Virginia High School League Bull Run District outright title after remaining undefeated in the regular season and posting an impressive 11–1 record; and
WHEREAS, after finishing his last season with a record of 8–3, Mark Roller's overall career record was an impressive 102–73, while his record over the past decade was 74–37; and
WHEREAS, Mark Roller has helped countless young people develop skills not only for football but for life, encouraging them to fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams; and
WHEREAS, Mark Roller's accomplishments are the result of his unwavering commitment to the Strasburg Rams football program and to the well-being of his student-athletes and staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mark Roller on the occasion of his retirement as head coach of the Strasburg High School football team; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Roller as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for his efforts as a coach and leader of the Commonwealth's youth and best wishes in his future endeavors.
