WHEREAS, Louise Rooney was presented with the Mayor's Distinguished Service Award at the 25th annual Town of Herndon Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Awards event; and WHEREAS, three volunteers from Herndon are chosen annually for their distinguished contributions, dedication, and devotion to the citizens of Herndon; and WHEREAS, a longtime volunteer, Louise Rooney loves to meet new people and generously gives of her time and talents to various organizations in the community; and WHEREAS, an exemplary administrator and leader, Louise Rooney has served as chaplain and president of the Herndon Fortnightly Club and on the board of directors for The Closet, a nonprofit thrift shop; and WHEREAS, Louise Rooney is a greeter at Reston Hospital, where she provides a friendly and supportive face to those who walk through the doors; and WHEREAS, Louise Rooney also volunteers at the Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic, Herndon United Methodist Church, a local ESL program, and the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees; and WHEREAS, Louise Rooney also received the 2009 Barbara Varon Award from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on October 19, 2009; and WHEREAS, the Barbara Varon Award is presented annually to an individual who demonstrates appreciation for the diversity of the community's population, exhibits patriotism, and shows evidence of having a positive effect on the community; and WHEREAS, Louise Rooney has selflessly worked to improve her community through volunteer service and serves as an exemplary role model for all; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Louise Rooney for her receipt of the Mayor's Distinguished Service Award at the 25th annual Town of Herndon Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Awards event; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Louise Rooney as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and gratitude for her service to the citizens of Herndon. |
