HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 227
Commending the Goochland High School girls' volleyball team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 5, 2016
Agreed to by the Senate, February 11, 2016

WHEREAS, athletic endeavor, not least in team sports, is an integral element in the formation of the well-rounded young person; and

WHEREAS, participation in programs of the Virginia High School League is enjoyed by countless high school students across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, sanctioned competition in the Virginia High School League includes the crowning of a state champion of Virginia in every major sport for both young men and women; and

WHEREAS, the girls' volleyball team of Goochland High School has won the Virginia High School League Group 2A state volleyball championship with a perfect record of 27 victories and no defeats; and

WHEREAS, the 2015 girls' volleyball team is the first all-girls team of Goochland High School to win a statewide championship title; and

WHEREAS, their undefeated record bears testimony to the Goochland High School girls' volleyball team's mastery of the disciplines of individual and all-team performance against challenging opponents; and

WHEREAS, five members of the Goochland High School team were accorded Quad Rivers 34 All-Conference recognition—Madelyn Ott, Josie Summitt, Maddie Parker, Alexis Wiggins, and Casey Spencer; and

WHEREAS, Goochland High School's Madelyn Ott was named Player of the Year for 2015, and the team's coach, Jennifer Erixon, was named Coach of the Year for 2015; and

WHEREAS, other team members and coaches, each of whose contributions are reflected in the achievement of the record-setting championship season, include Margaret Black, Faith Gerdes, Maddie Goff, Emma Holcombe, Kealie Lachinet, Katelin Martin, Finley Miers, Brenda Moore, Madelyn Ott, Maddie Parker, Casey Spencer, Josie Summitt, Corinne Whalen, Alexis Wiggins, and Coach Jennifer Erixon and Assistant Coach Andrew Hover; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Goochland High School girls' volleyball team on winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 2A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the 2015 Goochland High School girls' volleyball team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's exemplary triumph in athletic competition.
