Commending WLNI.

WHEREAS, WLNI, a news and information radio station broadcasting to the communities of Lynchburg, Amherst, Bedford, and Campbell Counties on 105.9 FM, celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, WLNI was founded in 1994 as Lynchburg's first full-time FM talk radio station under the ownership of the Friendship Broadcasting Company and was acquired by Daughters Media four years later; and

WHEREAS, WLNI transferred ownership again in 2004 to Centennial Broadcasting and moved its studios from their original location in Madison Heights to midtown Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, WLNI was then acquired by Wheeler Media in 2013, joining an eight-station group and relocating to its current studios in the Wyndhurst neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, since 2020, WLNI has been a stand-alone station under the ownership of James River Media, which has shifted the station's programming to emphasize Lynchburg-area news and issues; and

WHEREAS, WLNI's local show The Morningline with Mari White and Brian Weigand has kept citizens in Central Virginia updated and well-informed on matters before the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, WLNI also airs its local sports show The Sportsline with Rich Roth and Dennis Carter, along with an array of the nation's leading syndicated programs as a Fox News affiliate, as well as other local features; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of its exceptional news coverage and programming, WLNI has received several awards from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters over the years; and

WHEREAS, both as a valued partner of many local organizations in support of meaningful causes and as an important means by which listeners may engage with their elected officials and community leaders, WLNI has helped to make Lynchburg a more wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend WLNI on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to WLNI as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the station's contributions to the Lynchburg community.
