WHEREAS, Chuck Wilkins, a respected public servant who worked diligently to serve and protect his fellow Northumberland County residents, retired as Sheriff of Northumberland County in 2015; and WHEREAS, Chuck Wilkins joined the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office as a deputy and dispatcher, and over the course of his 32-year career, he rose through the ranks to become a lieutenant, captain, and sheriff; he is also a life member of the Callao Volunteer Fire Department and Callao Rescue Squad; and WHEREAS, serving as sheriff since 2008, Chuck Wilkins helped the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office succeed in its mission to enforce the law fairly, deter and prevent crime, and apprehend criminals; he has displayed exceptional care for the members of the community and has delivered three babies in the course of his duties as a first responder; and WHEREAS, Chuck Wilkins helped provide the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office with the highest quality tools, training, and techniques to safeguard the lives and property of community members, such as a new Live Scan system for obtaining and transmitting fingerprints digitally; and WHEREAS, during his second term as sheriff, Chuck Wilkins initiated construction of a new building for the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office and worked hard to ensure that it was completed before his retirement; and WHEREAS, emphasizing a high degree of professionalism, Chuck Wilkins encouraged officers and staff of the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office to complete extensive cross-training, allowing the members of the office to serve in multiple capacities and ensure efficient service to the public; and WHEREAS, Chuck Wilkins built strong relationships with local businesses, organizations, and citizens, fostering trust, cooperation, and respect to strengthen and enhance the community; and WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Chuck Wilkins plans to seek new opportunities to serve his fellow Northumberland County residents and spend time with his wife of more than 30 years and their two grown children; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Chuck Wilkins on the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of Northumberland County; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chuck Wilkins as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his dedicated service to the residents of Northumberland County and best wishes for a happy retirement. |
