WHEREAS, Sean Broderick, an aviation professional and journalist in Warrenton, received the 2015 Cecil A. Brownlow Publication Award for his special report "New Approaches to Aviation Safety"; and WHEREAS, the Cecil A. Brownlow Publication Award is presented annually by the Flight Safety Foundation and celebrates exceptional contributions to aviation safety by journalists; Sean Broderick received the award along with a colleague from Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine; and WHEREAS, a native of Boston, Sean Broderick graduated from Fauquier High School and earned a bachelor's degree from James Madison University and a master's degree from West Virginia University; he has worked in aviation since 1991, when he joined the manufacturer Airbus in Toulouse, France; and WHEREAS, a highly respected expert in aviation, Sean Broderick also worked with an aviation consultancy group and the American Association of Airport Executives before becoming the senior managing editor for maintenance, repair, and operations for Aviation Week & Space Technology; and WHEREAS, Sean Broderick's award-winning report, "New Approaches to Aviation Safety," explores the tools, training, and techniques available or in development to mitigate the risks of the three most common types of aviation accident; the report clearly presents the current state of industry knowledge while providing insightful analysis and forward-thinking ideas; and WHEREAS, Sean Broderick received the Cecil A. Brownlow Publication Award at the Flight Safety Foundation's annual Aerospace Media Dinner in Paris; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sean Broderick on receiving the Cecil A. Brownlow Publication Award for his report on aviation safety; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sean Broderick as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his valuable work to support and educate pilots in the Commonwealth and the United States. |
