13103198D Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 24.2-622.1 as follows: §24.2-622.1. Sample ballots, notices, and other information at polls; languages other than English. The electoral board of any county or city that should reasonably expect a group of voters who share a common non-English language and who are unable to read or communicate in English to seek to vote at a precinct shall cause to be available at such precinct (i) sufficient official sample ballots printed in the language of the group if official sample ballots are made available in English and (ii) sufficient copies of any official instructions, notices, and other information posted or made available at the polls printed in the language of the group if the same are also posted or made available in English. Reasonable expectation for the need for such ballots and other information may be based on U.S. Bureau of the Census data and reports, school census information, or other information available to the board. Members of such group, or their representative, also may request that the board cause such printing to be made and present evidence to support the request. The determination of the electoral board as to the languages in which to cause printings to be made shall be determinative and not subject to review. |
