Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. The Department of Transportation shall work
with the governing body of Patrick County and community groups interested in
constructing a replica of the Bob White Covered Bridge for tourism purposes to
approve a construction plan for a replica of the Bob White Covered Bridge open
for pedestrian, non–motor vehicle traffic. [ No provisions of the
Code of Virginia or the regulations of the Department of Transportation
regarding bridge standards and design shall apply to such replica bridge.
However, the Department of Transportation shall ensure that such planned
replica bridge is sufficiently stable and does not create a hazard. ,
provided that the replica bridge is designed in accordance with the most recent
edition of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials
(AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Guide Specifications for the Design
of Pedestrian Bridges and constructed in accordance with the most recent edition
of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Construction Specifications. ]
