Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §64.2-2401 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§64.2-2401. Powers and duties of conservator; bond; further orders as to management of estate; support of dependents.
A. The powers and duties applicable to conservators appointed pursuant to Article 1 (§ 64.2-2000 et seq.) of Chapter 20, as enumerated in §§64.2-2021 through 64.2-2025, shall apply mutatis mutandis to any conservator appointed for an absentee pursuant to § 64.2-2400.
B. The
court shall require that any conservator appointed pursuant to §64.2-2400 post
a bond in an amount deemed sufficient by the court. The court shall also enter
any orders it deems necessary (i) further directing
the conservator in the management, operation, and control of the estate that are additional to the powers and duties
applicable to such conservator pursuant to subsection A and
(ii) requiring the conservator to make ample and suitable provisions out of the
estate in his possession, subject to the rights of creditors, for the support
of the absentee's wife spouse and minor children, as
well as any other person dependent upon the absentee for support and
maintenance. The court shall require the conservator to make reports from time
to time as the court may deem expedient.
