A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 46.2-1224.2, relating to commercial dumpsters.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-1224.2 as follows:

§46.2-1224.2. Regulation of commercial dumpster use.

The Virginia Department of Transportation shall provide for the issuance of permits for the temporary placement of dumpsters in residential neighborhoods and storefronts. A permit shall only be issued if the placement of the dumpster is not on a major highway with heavy traffic flow as determined by the Department of Transportation. The permit fee shall be $20 per week, for a period not to exceed 30 days without the issuance of another permit. No dumpster shall be allowed in excess of 60 consecutive days. The permit shall be placed on the dumpster along with safety markings and reflective tape.
