A BILL to direct the Department of Health to study the viability of establishing or contracting for a professional program for emergency medical services personnel that addresses career fatigue and wellness.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. The Department of Health (the Department) shall establish a work group to study what is needed to establish or contract for a professional program for emergency medical services personnel, both professional and volunteer, that addresses career fatigue and wellness as described in subsection B of §8.01-581.16 of the Code of Virginia. In conducting the study, the Department shall identify the estimated cost of such a program and recommendations for providing funding to cover or offset such cost. The work group shall include representatives of the Medical Society of Virginia and any other relevant stakeholders as determined by the Department. The Department shall report its findings and recommendations to the Governor, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Health, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions by October 1, 2024.
