A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 2.2-602.1 and by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 9 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-982, relating to enforcement of federal immigration law by the Commonwealth and by political subdivisions of the Commonwealth.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 2.2-602.1 and by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 9 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-982 as follows:

§2.2-602.1. Enforcement of federal immigration law by agencies and political subdivisions of the Commonwealth.

No agency of the Commonwealth as defined in §8.01-385 or political subdivision of the Commonwealth as defined in §8.01-385, or employee of either of them acting in his official capacity, may limit or restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law.

§15.2-982. Enforcement of federal immigration law by localities.

No locality, or employee of a locality acting in his official capacity, may limit or restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law.
