| Louis Herbert Stumberg | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Louis Herbert | ||
| Stumberg, who died May 3, 2011, at the age of 87; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Louis Stumberg was born on April 17, 1924, in San | ||
| Antonio; he graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in | ||
| 1947 and went on to become a highly successful businessman and | ||
| community leader who was active in governmental and civic | ||
| affairs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He and his father and brother founded a frozen | ||
| foods franchise, Patio Mexican Foods, in 1946, and in 1957, Louis | ||
| Stumberg became president of Patio Foods, Incorporated; the | ||
| company was later acquired by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, and | ||
| he served as vice chairman of RJR Foods, Incorporated; following | ||
| a later merger, he served as vice chairman of Del Monte USA until | ||
| retiring in 1986; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as a civilian aide to | ||
| the secretary of the army and to his work with civic leaders who | ||
| lobbied for the construction of the Brooke Army Medical Center; | ||
| his extensive involvement in his community included serving as a | ||
| member of The University of Texas at San Antonio Development | ||
| Board, as chairman of a United Way campaign, and as director of | ||
| the San Antonio Community of Churches; he was a former president | ||
| of the Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman whose philosophy of | ||
| life centered on sharing his blessings with others; he gave | ||
| unselfishly of his time and energy to innumerable causes, and he | ||
| was respected for his generosity and many accomplishments; he | ||
| enjoyed spending time on his ranches and was known for inviting | ||
| wounded soldiers and their families to hunt and fish on his land; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Louis Stumberg was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
| grandfather and was beloved by his family and friends, and he | ||
| will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to share in his | ||
| life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Louis Herbert Stumberg: his wife, Mary Pat; his | ||
| daughter, Diana Marjorie Stumberg; his sons, Eric Byrne Stumberg | ||
| and Louis "Herb" Stumberg, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Keri | ||
| Stumberg; and his three grandchildren and great-grandson; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy | ||
| from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this | ||
| day, it do so in memory of Louis Herbert Stumberg. | ||
