SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 956
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Sandra Cavazos on the occasion of her retirement as
  executive director of the Student Services Department in the
  United Independent School District after 35 years of dedicated
  service in the field of education; and
         WHEREAS, Sandra Cavazos earned an associate's degree from
  Laredo Junior College, a bachelor of arts degree in elementary
  education from East Texas State University, and a master's
  degree in education from Laredo State University, now known as
  Texas A&M International University, where she has also worked
  as an adjunct professor; and
         WHEREAS, She began her long career in education as an
  elementary school teacher in the Laredo Independent School
  District; in 1982, she transferred to the United Independent
  School District, where she began working with gifted and
  talented, bilingual, and special education students; and
         WHEREAS, She became an instructional facilitator and
  supervisor for the district and then worked in administrative
  positions at several schools, serving as campus instructional
  administrator, assistant principal, principal, and director of
  discipline management before accepting the executive director
  position with the Student Services Department; and
         WHEREAS, She has provided her leadership and expertise to
  numerous professional associations and devoted many hours as a
  volunteer in the community promoting education, especially
  reading; she has been widely recognized with numerous awards for
  her teaching excellence, and she has inspired generations of
  students through her wise counsel and encouragement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Sandra Cavazos for her many
  contributions to the educational system of this state and extend to
  her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
