SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 95
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Elizabeth Avitia on the occasion of her retirement from
  the Brownsville Independent School District after 36 years of
  loyal service; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Avitia is retiring as the health education
  and Quest lead teacher and the CATCH coordinator in the
  Curriculum and Instruction Department; a graduate of Brownsville
  High School, she holds a bachelor's degree from Pan American
  University, where she studied health and physical education and
  completed 15 hours of graduate work; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Avitia has served as a
  physical education teacher and health education teacher at
  Central Middle School and the health education and Quest lead
  teacher for all grade levels in the Brownsville Independent
  School District; and
         WHEREAS, She has accepted lead positions in numerous
  activities for students, including the March of Dimes Walk
  America and "Just Say No" programs; she has also coordinated and
  facilitated meetings for educators as well as students; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Avitia has received many awards for her
  leadership and her outstanding abilities; she was named Teacher
  of the Month, Teacher of the Week, and a Living Legacy and
  received many other honors; she has been active in several
  community and professional associations; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Mrs. Avitia strived for
  excellence in all her endeavors; she has been a blessing to the
  community and has mentored generations of students; she has been
  an innovative, resourceful, and enthusiastic educator who
  instilled in her students a sense of pride and a lifelong love of
  learning; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Elizabeth Avitia
  for her many contributions to the educational system of this
  state and extend to her best wishes for the retirement years
  ahead; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
