| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Dr. Ira Iscoe on the grand occasion of his 90th | ||
| birthday; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman and eminent scholar | ||
| is well known for his wisdom, wit, and generosity of spirit, and | ||
| he is a respected and admired resident of Austin; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ira Iscoe was born February 1, 1921, in New York | ||
| City; during the Great Depression, he moved with his family to | ||
| Quebec, where he helped his mother operate a kosher resort and | ||
| where he studied at a four-room schoolhouse reached on skis; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He joined the United States Army during World War | ||
| II and served in the Pacific theater, rising to the rank of staff | ||
| sergeant and earning numerous commendations, including two | ||
| Bronze Stars; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He had a momentous year in 1951, turning 30 years | ||
| old, earning his doctorate, moving to Austin to teach at The | ||
| University of Texas, and marrying his brilliant and beautiful | ||
| girlfriend, Louise Kosches; the couple went on to raise three | ||
| children, who have blessed them with five grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Iscoe enjoyed a long and illustrious career at | ||
| The University of Texas, earning numerous teaching and academic | ||
| honors and serving as the director of the university's Human | ||
| Development and Family Institute; in 2007, he received the Rostow | ||
| Lifetime Achievement Award from the Austin Project; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of his community, | ||
| he is noted for his prowess in the kitchen, his comfort with | ||
| people from all walks of life, and his enthusiasm for living each | ||
| day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby recognize Dr. Ira Iscoe as a treasured | ||
| resident of Austin and extend to him best wishes on the occasion | ||
| of his 90th birthday; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
