| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| join the citizens of Bryan and College Station in celebrating | ||
| February 6, 2013, as Bryan-College Station Day at the State | ||
| Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, | ||
| WHEREAS, The City of Bryan was established in 1859 and | ||
| named after William Joel Bryan, the nephew of Texas pioneer | ||
| Stephen F. Austin; Bryan incorporated in 1871 and grew into a | ||
| vibrant and diverse city of commerce; and | ||
| WHEREAS, College Station burgeoned along with the | ||
| university, experiencing major growth in the 1960s, when the | ||
| school opened its doors to women and adopted the name Texas A&M | ||
| University; today, Texas A&M is one of the largest public | ||
| universities in the nation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This thriving area is also home to the George Bush | ||
| Presidential Library and Museum; the library chronicles the | ||
| administration of George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president | ||
| of the United States, and houses more than 40,000 artifacts and | ||
| one million audiovisual records; since its opening in 1997, the | ||
| presidential library has hosted more than 690,000 visitors; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Set amid rich, rolling farmlands, the two | ||
| venerable cities of Bryan and College Station share a steadfast | ||
| commitment to higher education, cultural enrichment, and | ||
| enduring traditions; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, hereby join the proud area citizens in celebrating | ||
| Bryan-College Station Day at the State Capitol on February 6, | ||
| 2013; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an | ||
| expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
