| WHEREAS, The Texas Commission on the Arts has announced the | ||
| appointment of Beili Liu as the 2018 State Three-Dimensional | ||
| Artist; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Texas State Artist designations are awarded | ||
| to a select group of individuals to honor the exceptional quality | ||
| of their work and their outstanding commitment to the arts in | ||
| Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Jilin, China, Beili Liu graduated with | ||
| a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan at | ||
| Ann Arbor, and she currently serves as a professor of art at The | ||
| University of Texas at Austin; she creates installations that use | ||
| commonplace materials to express complex cultural narratives, | ||
| and her pieces have been included in both solo and group | ||
| exhibitions across the United States as well as in Asia and | ||
| Europe; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In recognition of her accomplishments, Beili Liu | ||
| has received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the | ||
| National Endowment for the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg | ||
| Foundation; in 2008, she received a San Francisco Mayor's Award | ||
| for her dedication to cultural exchange, and in 2011, she was | ||
| presented with a Distinction Award at the 2011 Kaunas Biennial in | ||
| Lithuania; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Widely admired for her immense talent, Beili Liu | ||
| has made important contributions to her chosen field of artistic | ||
| endeavor, and in so doing, she has enriched the cultural vitality | ||
| of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby congratulate Beili Liu on her selection as | ||
| the 2018 State Three-Dimensional Artist and extend to her sincere | ||
| best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| Beili Liu as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
