| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
| residents of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Colonel Harold | ||
| Raley Dunn, who died March 29, 2013, at the age of 91; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This exemplary patriot spent much of his life | ||
| serving his country, and over the years, his unwavering sense of | ||
| duty and his superior military service inspired many of the young | ||
| soldiers who reported to him; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born January 22, 1922, in Dallas, Harold Raley | ||
| Dunn graduated from Terrell High School; during his senior year | ||
| at Texas Christian University, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, | ||
| and he left school to join the United States Army; over the next | ||
| 33 years of military service, he held many command, staff, and | ||
| advisory positions and attained the rank of colonel; he also | ||
| found time to resume his education and graduate from George | ||
| Washington University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Colonel Dunn's military career spanned World War | ||
| II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, and he was awarded the | ||
| Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit for his exceptionally | ||
| meritorious service; while he was stationed in Europe, he met and | ||
| married the love of his life, Mary, and the couple raised two | ||
| children and shared 64 years together; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This exceptional gentleman and dedicated soldier | ||
| was proud of his military service and took great pleasure in | ||
| seeing the young soldiers with whom he served achieve success in | ||
| their careers; he was devoted to his family and was noted for his | ||
| abiding courage and integrity, and he leaves behind memories that | ||
| will long be remembered and cherished by all those who knew him; | ||
| now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Colonel Harold Raley Dunn; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Colonel Harold Raley Dunn. | ||
