SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 86
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome to Austin the visiting delegation from Denton County and
  to designate February 23 and 24, 2015, as Denton County Days at
  the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Denton County was created in 1846 out of land from
  the original Peters Colony Grant and was named for John B.
  Denton, a pioneer lawyer and Methodist minister; the City of
  Denton has served as the county seat since 1857; the historic
  Denton County Courthouse that stands on the square in Denton was
  dedicated in 1897; with its limestone exterior and majestic clock
  tower, it has long been one of the region's most impressive
  sights; and
         WHEREAS, Denton County is well known as a center for higher
  education; the county has 11 outstanding public school districts
  and is home to such distinguished institutions as the University
  of North Texas, established in 1890, Texas Woman's University,
  established in 1901, and North Central Texas College; and
         WHEREAS, Denton County has experienced rapid growth since
  the 1970s, and the 2010 census placed its population at 662,614;
  its cities and chambers of commerce provide a welcoming business
  climate, and the county has been recognized nationally as an
  exceptional place to live and work; and
         WHEREAS, The area offers many cultural and recreational
  opportunities, including the Texas Motor Speedway, Lake Ray
  Roberts, and Lewisville Lake, which contribute to the region's
  thriving economy and progressive development; and
         WHEREAS, The visiting Denton County delegation is composed
  of mayors and civic, business, and educational leaders and is
  headed by County Judge Mary Horn and County Commissioners Hugh
  Coleman, Ron Marchant, Bobbie J. Mitchell, and Andy Eads; and
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Denton County have contributed
  greatly to the growth and prosperity of the Lone Star State over
  the years, and they can be justifiably proud of their many
  achievements as they look to the future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby join the Denton County delegation in
  celebrating February 23 and 24, 2015, as Denton County Days at
  the State Capitol and extend to all best wishes for a memorable
  visit to Austin; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
