| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Ruthie Ewers for her many contributions to Texas State | ||
| Technical College and the people of the Rio Grande Valley; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ruthie Ewers is a distinguished businesswoman, | ||
| philanthropist, and community leader who has made countless | ||
| contributions to the region's quality of life; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 1974, she and her husband, Norbert Ewers, | ||
| cofounded LEE Marketing, a door-to-door distribution and direct | ||
| mail services company; the firm was a pioneer in the mailing | ||
| industry, and by 1997, it was a $25 million-a-year enterprise; | ||
| its many notable clients included General Motors, Southwest | ||
| Airlines, Universal Studios, and the Dallas Cowboys; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She is active in a wide range of civic and | ||
| charitable organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, | ||
| the Salvation Army, Loaves and Fishes, and Monica and Maggie's | ||
| House; she has worked tirelessly to raise scholarship money for | ||
| students attending Texas State Technical College, and she was | ||
| recently honored at the college's 12th Annual Noche de Gala | ||
| Scholarship Fundraiser; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ruthie Ewers has made a profound difference in the | ||
| lives of people across the Rio Grande Valley, and it is truly | ||
| fitting that she receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Ruthie Ewers on her commitment to | ||
| serving others and extend to her best wishes for continued | ||
| success in all her endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
