| Efrain Jesus Laurel | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of Efrain Jesus "E. J." Laurel, who died | ||
| January 3, 2019, at the age of 86; and | ||
| WHEREAS, E. J. Laurel was an exemplary citizen and a highly | ||
| respected law enforcement officer who was known for his courage, | ||
| commitment to public service, and attention to detail; he was | ||
| passionate about his work, and he had a positive impact on life in | ||
| Laredo and across the Rio Grande Valley; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, the late Alma Diana P. | ||
| Laurel, were blessed with five children, Efrain Laurel Jr., | ||
| Araceli Vasquez, Carlos Laurel, Clarissa Elizondo, and Diedra | ||
| Lizcano; his 14 grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren | ||
| were a source of much pride and joy for him; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Laredo, E. J. Laurel began his 40-year | ||
| career in law enforcement by serving as a United States customs | ||
| agent; he later worked for a time with the Drug Enforcement | ||
| Administration before becoming the Webb County Precinct 4 | ||
| constable; he concluded his career by serving as chief of the | ||
| Laredo Police Department; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Laurel held a master's degree in | ||
| interdisciplinary studies, and he was noted for his exceptional | ||
| memory for historical facts; he was a man of many interests and an | ||
| avid baseball fan, and he took great joy in living each day to the | ||
| fullest; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
| grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished | ||
| forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Efrain Jesus Laurel; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of E. J. Laurel. | ||
