SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 771
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the residents and officials of Willacy County, who have
  come to the State Capitol to celebrate Willacy County Day on
  April 14, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Willacy County was formed in 1911 from parts of
  Cameron and Hidalgo Counties and originally included the area now
  known as Kenedy County; it was named for state Senator John G.
  Willacy; the county's largest town and county seat is
  Raymondville; this year the county is celebrating its centennial
  anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Willacy County's proximity to Mexico is very
  beneficial for product transportation and commercial trade, and
  it boasts a large and diverse number of employers, from the
  United States Department of Homeland Security to Walmart, H-E-B,
  and the City of Raymondville; and
         WHEREAS, From ranchlands to coastal lands, Willacy County
  offers something for every nature lover; birds, grasses, trees,
  butterflies, and dragonflies are some of the wildlife popular
  with tourists; the county has a strong fishing and hunting
  industry; Port Mansfield is one of the best fishing areas in the
  country and is considered Willacy County's coastal treasure; and
         WHEREAS, Wild in Willacy is an annual event held in October
  that promotes awareness of the county's natural resources and
  includes tours of ranches, talks on birding and eco-tourism,
  musical entertainment, and cook-off competitions that can be
  enjoyed by the whole family; and
         WHEREAS, Willacy County Day provides an opportunity for
  friends and families to honor the county's past and its many
  assets, which today are enjoyed by residents and vacationers of
  all ages; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby recognize April 14, 2011, as Willacy County
  Day at the State Capitol and join citizens of this historic and
  vital region in paying tribute to this wonderful county; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the residents of Willacy County as a token of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
