| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Gaspar Garcia for his outstanding work as director of | ||
| bands at Oliveira Middle School in Brownsville; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia joined the faculty at Oliveira Middle | ||
| School in 2013 after having served as assistant band director at | ||
| Hanna Early College High School; he began his teaching career in | ||
| Fort Worth, where he played an important role in the award-winning | ||
| Southwest High School concert bands; and | ||
| WHEREAS, All concert bands under Mr. Garcia's leadership | ||
| have consistently won sweepstakes awards at University | ||
| Interscholastic League competitions and invitational festivals; | ||
| the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band recently placed fifth | ||
| overall in class CCC at the Texas Music Educators Association's | ||
| State Honor Band Contest, and it was selected a national winner | ||
| at the National Wind Band Honors Contest through the Foundation | ||
| for Music Education; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An outstanding performer in his own right, | ||
| Mr. Garcia has performed with many noted ensembles, including the | ||
| Lone Star Wind Orchestra and the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra; | ||
| he is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, | ||
| the Texas Band Masters Association, and the International Clarinet | ||
| Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An exemplary educator, Gaspar Garcia is having a | ||
| positive impact on the lives of his students, and it is truly | ||
| fitting that he receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Gaspar Garcia on his exceptional | ||
| leadership as director of bands at Oliveira Middle School and | ||
| extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his | ||
| endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
