| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the members of the Guadalupe Valley Young Marines and | ||
| to commend them for their participation in Red Ribbon Week; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Young Marines is a national, nonprofit youth | ||
| organization that is open to all students from age eight | ||
| through high school graduation; local Young Marines units | ||
| promote the mental, moral, and physical development of their | ||
| members, help them to become good citizens, and help them to | ||
| develop the self-discipline they need to live healthy, | ||
| drug-free lifestyles; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Red Ribbon Week is a national illegal drug | ||
| awareness campaign observed annually during the final week of | ||
| October; the popular event helps to educate and inform citizens | ||
| about the importance of illicit drug-use prevention at the local | ||
| level; approximately 80 million individuals across the country | ||
| participate in Red Ribbon Week each year; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This important campaign is one of the Young | ||
| Marines' primary annual events, and members of the Guadalupe | ||
| Valley unit participate in numerous activities to promote the | ||
| mission of Red Ribbon Week in their community; all who are taking | ||
| part in this educational event are indeed deserving of special | ||
| recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
| Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the members of the | ||
| Guadalupe Valley Young Marines for their commitment to the fight | ||
| against illicit drugs and extend to them best wishes for a | ||
| successful and educational 2021 Red Ribbon Week; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this | ||
| organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
