SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 75
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the 17th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Chili and
Bar-B-Que Cook-Off, which is being held October 14, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional event was founded in 2000 by the
late Patsy Childress as a way to give back to the community;
through the years, the event has raised more than $550,000 in
charitable contributions; and
WHEREAS, Proceeds from the cook-off benefit the Gifts of
Hope, an organization that provides help with day-to-day expenses
for patients at the Allison Cancer Center; Gifts of Hope also
supports the Hope House, a "home-away-from-home" that is offered
free of charge to patients from out of town while they receive
treatment; and
WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their charitable initiatives,
as well as for their enjoyment of community gatherings, and it is
hoped that many will attend the 17th Annual Breast Cancer
Awareness Chili and Bar-B-Que Cook-Off, as this spirited
competition is being organized for a truly worthy cause; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of the 17th Annual
Breast Cancer Awareness Chili and Bar-B-Que Cook-Off and extend
to all participants best wishes for a successful event; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
