Hubert W. Green | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Hubert W. Green, | ||
who died March 26, 2011, at the age of 84; and | ||
WHEREAS, Hubert Green was born August 25, 1926, in San | ||
Antonio; he served the nation during World War II as a member of | ||
the United States Army Air Corps before enrolling at The | ||
University of Texas at Austin; and | ||
WHEREAS, He graduated with honors from The University of | ||
Texas School of Law, where he was a contributing editor of the | ||
Texas Law Review and was elected to the legal honor society Order | ||
of the Coif; following his graduation, he entered into the | ||
private practice of law at his father's firm in San Antonio; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Green was appointed by Governor Allen Shivers | ||
to be Bexar County District Attorney in 1955, a position he held | ||
until 1958; he went on to practice law for more than 60 years, and | ||
in 1974 was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, | ||
for whom he served as Texas state chairman and as a governing | ||
regent for the national organization; in 2001, the San Antonio | ||
Bar Association awarded him its highest honor, the Joe Frazier | ||
Brown, Sr. Award of Excellence; and | ||
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his | ||
daily life, Mr. Green was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist | ||
Church, where he served as a deacon; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
gave freely to others, and his wisdom, his love of family, and his | ||
commitment to the legal field will not be forgotten; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
grandfather, and his family and many friends will continue to | ||
live with the treasured memories of his life and his many | ||
achievements; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Hubert W. Green: his wife of 61 years, Leah Tritt; his | ||
children, Cynthia Graham, Justice Paul W. Green, and David W. | ||
Green; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Hubert W. Green. | ||
