SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 72
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Leroy Dreyer, who was inducted into the American
  Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on January 6, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Leroy Dreyer served as a coach and athletic
  director at Blinn College for more than 30 years; under his
  exemplary leadership, the college's athletic program became one
  of the most respected and successful in the nation; and
         WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete in his own right, he was a
  junior college all-American football player at Blinn College
  before becoming the school's athletic director, football coach,
  and baseball coach at the age of 28; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure as baseball coach,
  he won 72 percent of his games and five of his teams advanced to
  the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series;
  23 of his Blinn College baseball players were named
  all-Americans, and 52 received professional contracts, including
  such accomplished major leaguers as Ron Davis and Gary Weiss; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Dreyer received numerous honors over the
  course of his career, including the Hap Morse Award and Topps
  Coach of the Year, and the baseball field and the most valuable
  baseball player award at Blinn College have been named in his
  honor; and
         WHEREAS, Leroy Dreyer has had a profound influence on his
  profession and on the many generations of athletes he has led,
  and it is truly fitting that he receive special recognition for
  his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Leroy Dreyer on his exceptional
  contributions to college athletics and extend congratulations
  to him on his induction into the American Baseball Coaches
  Association Hall of Fame; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
