| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Students In Free Enterprise team from Central Texas | ||
| College in Killeen, which recently won its 15th consecutive | ||
| regional championship; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Students In Free Enterprise is an international | ||
| nonprofit organization that works with leaders in business and | ||
| higher education to encourage college students to make a | ||
| difference in their communities while developing the skills | ||
| necessary to become socially responsible business leaders; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Teams are judged on their ability to make a | ||
| difference in their community by most effectively empowering | ||
| people in need; each team prepared a written report and an oral | ||
| multimedia presentation to demonstrate how they had applied | ||
| business and economic concepts and an entrepreneurial approach | ||
| to improve the quality of life and standard of living for | ||
| children, college students, and citizens at large; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The team from Central Texas College offered | ||
| several activities for the competition, including Project | ||
| Building Lives, a series of workshops and classes to help people | ||
| budget their food dollars and prepare cost-effective meals; | ||
| Project Rise, a mentorship program to assist at-risk youth; and | ||
| Project Upgrade, a series of workshops to help people better | ||
| their chances of finding employment, prepare for college, and | ||
| improve financial literacy; and | ||
| WHEREAS, By winning the regional competition, which | ||
| included teams from 26 other colleges and universities, the team | ||
| from Central Texas College earned the right to advance to the | ||
| Students In Free Enterprise National Exposition in Minnesota; | ||
| team members are truly deserving of recognition for their hard | ||
| work and their many contributions to the community; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the Students In | ||
| Free Enterprise team from Central Texas College on its 15th | ||
| consecutive regional championship; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
