| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey | ||
| Throwdown Cook-off as a Texas State Barbecue Championship | ||
| competition; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sponsored by the internationally recognized Alice | ||
| Evening Lions Club and Alice Evening Lions' Charities, the annual | ||
| Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off is held in Alice, Texas, on a | ||
| weekend in August; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey | ||
| Throwdown Cook-off began in November of 2008 and includes arts | ||
| and crafts, a children's cook-off, live entertainment, and a | ||
| barbecue cook-off sanctioned by the International Barbeque | ||
| Cookers Association, with more attractions to be added annually; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club was chartered June | ||
| 25, 1971, and the nonprofit Alice Evening Lions' Charities formed | ||
| in June of 2007; all the funds raised from the cook-off benefit | ||
| local community projects; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey | ||
| Throwdown Cook-off has attracted approximately 600 visitors to | ||
| Alice and is expected to attract 300 to 600 visitors annually; | ||
| cooking teams and visitors come from all areas of the state; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and | ||
| this annual cook-off has provided and will continue to provide | ||
| superior cuisine that satisfies the most discriminating of | ||
| palates; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the annual Alice Evening Lions | ||
| Club's Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off and extend best wishes | ||
| to all associated with the event; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| this special occasion as an expression of the high regard of the | ||
| Texas Senate. | ||
