Joe Edward McKnight | ||
WHEREAS, Residents of Marion County lost a dedicated | ||
public servant with the passing of County Commissioner Joe Edward | ||
McKnight of Jefferson on January 31, 2021, at the age of 62; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of J. C. "Sonny" McKnight and Lawana Gayle | ||
Russell McKnight, Joe McKnight was born on April 26, 1958, in | ||
Marshall, and he grew up with the companionship of two brothers, | ||
Charles and David; in 1974, he began a career in the oil industry | ||
that spanned more than three decades; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. McKnight was elected as Marion County | ||
commissioner for Precinct 2 in 2011, and he served with | ||
distinction in that office until the time of his passing; during | ||
his tenure, he helped implement numerous initiatives, including | ||
a major renovation project to update the Marion County | ||
courthouse; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. McKnight served with | ||
the Smithland Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years; in | ||
addition, he was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #38 and | ||
the Jim's Bayou Masonic Lodge #491 A.F. & A.M.; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. McKnight benefited from | ||
the love and support of his wife, Kim, with whom he shared a | ||
rewarding marriage of more than four decades, and he took great | ||
pride in his two children, Wendy and Russell, and in his five | ||
grandchildren, Peyton, Trenton, Presley, Lila, and Heath; in his | ||
leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing; and | ||
WHEREAS, Joe McKnight gave freely of his time and expertise | ||
to better his community, and he leaves behind a record of service | ||
that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be | ||
it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Marion County | ||
Commissioner Joe Edward McKnight and extend sincere sympathy to | ||
all who mourn his passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Joe Edward McKnight. | ||
