SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 692
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Norm Archibald, who is retiring after 13 years of
  exceptional public service as mayor of Abilene; and
         WHEREAS, Norm Archibald was first elected mayor in 2004,
  after having served four years as a city councilman; under his
  outstanding leadership, Abilene has continued to grow and to
  serve as a major center of commerce in West Texas; and
         WHEREAS, He is the longest-serving mayor in Abilene's
  history, and he is vice president of Abilene's Hendrick Health
  System, where he is responsible for the development of the system
  through the Hendrick Medical Center Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Archibald is also the chair of the Abilene
  Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Abilene-Taylor County
  Venue District; he is active in a wide range of community and
  professional organizations, including the Texas Trails Council
  of the Boy Scouts of America, the Abilene Industrial Foundation,
  the Texas Hospital Association, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce,
  and the United Way of Abilene; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, he is respected and
  admired by his colleagues and area citizens, and his presence as
  mayor of Abilene will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Mayor Norm Archibald on his
  exceptional service to the people of Abilene and extend to him
  best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
