| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the citizens of Galena Park who have organized an | ||
| observance of the National Day of Prayer; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Civic prayers date back to the First Continental | ||
| Congress of 1775, and the first National Day of Prayer was | ||
| established when President Harry S. Truman signed a joint | ||
| resolution by Congress in 1952; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since 1988, the National Day of Prayer has been | ||
| celebrated the first Thursday in May, and residents of Galena | ||
| Park will be observing this special day at the Galena Park City | ||
| Hall on May 6, 2015; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Prayer has remained an integral part of this | ||
| country's rich history, and the National Day of Prayer is an | ||
| opportunity for citizens of all faiths to gather and express | ||
| gratitude for the many blessings and liberties we have and to | ||
| pray for the nation, its people, and its leaders; now, therefore, | ||
| be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Galena Park for | ||
| organizing an observance of the National Day of Prayer; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a | ||
| memento of this special occasion. | ||
