| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize members of Conjunto Halcón, a talented musical | ||
| ensemble from Los Fresnos High School that is performing in the | ||
| rotunda at the State Capitol on May 8, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Conjunto is a unique musical style that has roots | ||
| in South Texas and is heavily influenced by Latin American | ||
| performance traditions; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Conjunto Halcón was formed at Los Fresnos High | ||
| School in 2012 under the guidance of musician and educator Juan | ||
| Longoria Jr.; the ensemble represents one of a select few public | ||
| school conjunto programs in the state, and it has grown to | ||
| include more than 35 student musicians; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Conjunto Halcón helps keep the conjunto tradition | ||
| alive by performing at schools and community events around the | ||
| state; this year, the group will showcase their skills at the | ||
| Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival in Austin and the Tejano Conjunto | ||
| Festival in San Antonio; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The talented members of Conjunto Halcón have | ||
| developed excellent teamwork and discipline, and they are a | ||
| source of great pride for Los Fresnos High School and the Los | ||
| Fresnos community; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the members of Conjunto Halcón of Los | ||
| Fresnos High School for their success in performing and in | ||
| preserving a proud South Texas music tradition and extend to them | ||
| best wishes for a memorable performance at the State Capitol; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the group as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
