SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 670
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize members of Conjunto Halcón, a talented musical
  ensemble from Los Fresnos High School that is performing in the
  rotunda at the State Capitol on May 8, 2017; and
 
         WHEREAS, Conjunto is a unique musical style that has roots
  in South Texas and is heavily influenced by Latin American
  performance traditions; and
 
         WHEREAS, Conjunto Halcón was formed at Los Fresnos High
  School in 2012 under the guidance of musician and educator Juan
  Longoria Jr.; the ensemble represents one of a select few public
  school conjunto programs in the state, and it has grown to
  include more than 35 student musicians; and
 
         WHEREAS, Conjunto Halcón helps keep the conjunto tradition
  alive by performing at schools and community events around the
  state; this year, the group will showcase their skills at the
  Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival in Austin and the Tejano Conjunto
  Festival in San Antonio; and
 
         WHEREAS, The talented members of Conjunto Halcón have
  developed excellent teamwork and discipline, and they are a
  source of great pride for Los Fresnos High School and the Los
  Fresnos community; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend the members of Conjunto Halcón of Los
  Fresnos High School for their success in performing and in
  preserving a proud South Texas music tradition and extend to them
  best wishes for a memorable performance at the State Capitol;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the group as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
