Charles Durham Nash | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Charles Durham Nash, | ||
who died March 28, 2011, at the age of 87; and | ||
WHEREAS, Charles Durham Nash was an icon in the Central | ||
Texas automobile business whose vision and leadership played a | ||
vital role in building the business community in Austin; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Nash began his career in the automobile | ||
industry at the age of 24 following his World War II service as a | ||
supply officer in the United States Army; he owned and managed | ||
and served as chairman of the board of Capitol Chevrolet, the | ||
dealership founded by his father in 1935; for more than 60 years, | ||
Mr. Nash was deeply involved in every aspect of the enterprise; and | ||
WHEREAS, In addition to running his highly successful | ||
business, Mr. Nash worked with other civic leaders, including | ||
former Mayor Roy Butler, to create jobs and businesses in Austin; | ||
he served as a director of Austin National Bank and chaired the | ||
board of trustees of the Headliners Club and the Texas Automobile | ||
Dealers Association; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage, determination, and compassion, | ||
he gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous | ||
spirit, and his genuine concern for all those he met will not be | ||
forgotten by the many people whose lives he touched; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, | ||
and he will long be remembered with affection and admiration by | ||
all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Charles Durham Nash: his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; his | ||
children, Nancy Nash Harper and Chuck Nash; and his five | ||
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Charles Durham Nash. | ||
