SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 66
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Eddie Cavazos, who is retiring after a long and
  productive career as a businessman, public servant, and
  lobbyist; and
         WHEREAS, Eddie Cavazos is a veteran of the United States
  Army and a graduate of Texas A&M University--Kingsville; he began
  his professional career with the Reynolds Metal Company before
  starting businesses in casualty insurance and real estate
  brokerage; and
         WHEREAS, He served for 10 years as a member of the Texas
  House of Representatives speaking for the people of Corpus
  Christi and of Nueces County; he served in numerous important
  posts, including as chair of the Insurance Committee and as chair
  of the Mexican-American Legislative Caucus; and
         WHEREAS, In 1993, he was appointed by Governor Ann Richards
  to serve as chair of the Texas Workforce Commission; under his
  leadership, the agency underwent a complete restructuring that
  improved productivity among its employees throughout the state,
  and he led the implementation of mobile technology that allowed
  the public access to the statewide job market; and
         WHEREAS, Over the last 22 years, he has been an advocate at
  the Texas Legislature for a wide range of issues including
  energy, communications, windstorm insurance, health care,
  education, and business development; he is truly deserving of
  special recognition for his many achievements; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Eddie Cavazos on his many
  contributions to the people of our state and extend to him best
  wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
