WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize Travis T. Howard Lewis, who is being honored by the | ||
Alpha Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, | ||
Incorporated, for 75 years of exemplary service; and | ||
WHEREAS, For more than a century, Alpha Kappa Alpha | ||
Sorority has pursued its mission of cultivating and encouraging | ||
high scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and | ||
friendship among college women, studying the problems faced by | ||
women in order to improve their social stature, maintaining a | ||
progressive interest in college life, and being of service to all | ||
mankind; and | ||
WHEREAS, An educator, philanthropist, and civic leader, | ||
Travis T. Howard Lewis was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha | ||
Sorority in 1936 while attending Wiley College, where she earned | ||
a bachelor's degree in English and social studies; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lewis began her professional career as a | ||
librarian at Julia C. Frazier Elementary School and for 40 years | ||
served the Dallas Independent School District with honor and | ||
distinction; her generosity through the scholarship foundation | ||
named in her honor has benefited many deserving students, and she | ||
has further supported various institutions of higher education | ||
and civic and philanthropic organizations; and | ||
WHEREAS, She is truly deserving of recognition for her many | ||
contributions to her community, her alma mater, and her sorority; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby commend Travis T. Howard Lewis of Alpha Kappa | ||
Alpha Sorority on 75 years of exceptional service and extend to | ||
her best wishes for continued success in all her future | ||
endeavors; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
