SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 627
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Louis Agnese on the occasion of the 25th anniversary
of his inauguration as president of the University of the Incarnate
Word; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Agnese was inaugurated on March 25, 1986; at the
time, he was one of the youngest presidents of a four-year
institution of higher education in the country, and today, he is
the longest-serving president of a comprehensive, four-year
university in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Under his exceptional leadership, the university
has undergone remarkable growth and development in facilities,
programs, and enrollment; the student body has more than
quintupled, majors have increased from 56 to nearly 80, and
doctoral programs were begun for the first time; and
WHEREAS, The university's budget has grown from $7.8 million
to more than $160 million, and its endowment has increased from $3
million to more than $80 million; the Feik School of Pharmacy and
the Rosenberg School of Optometry have opened, helping to fill the
state's need for training in these vital disciplines; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Agnese has had a significant impact on higher
education in this state, and he is truly deserving of recognition
for his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Louis Agnese on his 25 years of
outstanding service to the University of the Incarnate Word and
extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
