WHEREAS, George Purefoy is retiring as the city manager of | ||
Frisco on June 30, 2022, drawing to a close nearly three and a half | ||
decades of outstanding service to the city; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Purefoy earned his bachelor's degree in | ||
political science and business administration from The University | ||
of Texas at Arlington and his master's degree in public | ||
administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce; he began his | ||
career in public service at Taylor Lake Village, where he was the | ||
city administrator from July 1980 to January 1981, and he went on to | ||
serve as city manager of Columbus from 1981 to 1987; and | ||
WHEREAS, In November 1987, Mr. Purefoy became the first city | ||
manager of Frisco, and his exemplary 34-year tenure in the position | ||
makes him the longest-serving city manager in Texas to have worked | ||
for the same city; in addition to managing the municipality's | ||
day-to-day operations, he helped to put the city on firmer | ||
financial footing and to lay the foundation for Frisco's rapid | ||
growth, from a population of 3,400 in 1980 to more than 215,000 | ||
today; and | ||
WHEREAS, Under Mr. Purefoy's leadership, the city enhanced | ||
its infrastructure to accommodate new development, devised funding | ||
mechanisms to collect growth in property tax value, and established | ||
the Stonebriar Centre shopping mall; he also helped bring the | ||
Dallas Cowboys' world headquarters and training facility, The Star | ||
in Frisco, to the city, as well as the PGA of America headquarters, | ||
and he was instrumental in facilitating several projects with the | ||
Frisco Independent School District, including the new $67 million | ||
performing arts center; and | ||
WHEREAS, George Purefoy's dedication, skill, and commitment | ||
to excellence have greatly benefited the citizens of Frisco and | ||
earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, and he may | ||
indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on | ||
the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby congratulate George Purefoy on his retirement as city | ||
manager of Frisco and extend to him sincere best wishes for the | ||
future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Purefoy as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas Senate. |
