SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 596
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Academy at Nola Dunn, which has placed in the top 10
in the nation in Learning Ally's 2017 Great Reading Games
competition; and
WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that
provides learning materials to students with print disabilities,
and it has sponsored the Great Reading Games since 2014; this
exemplary program gives students an opportunity to be recognized
for their efforts and to improve their reading success; and
WHEREAS, The Academy at Nola Dunn is a campus of the
Burleson Independent School District in Johnson County; it was
ranked eighth out of the schools across the country that took
part in this prestigious competition; and
WHEREAS, In 2017 alone, students across the nation
completed more than 5.3 million pages in the competition, a
significant increase from the year before; participants tend to
greatly increase the amount of time they spend reading and to
read above their grade level; and
WHEREAS, The people of Burleson and Johnson County are
proud of the students from the Academy at Nola Dunn for the hard
work and determination they exhibited in this important event;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff of
the Academy at Nola Dunn on their commitment to excellence in
education and extend congratulations to them on their success
in the Learning Ally Great Reading Games; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
