	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 596
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
	recognize Maria R. Montecel, who has been selected for induction
	into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame for her outstanding
	work in the field of education; and

	WHEREAS, The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame honors those
	women who have contributed significantly to the San Antonio
	community and the Bexar County region through their
	accomplishments in their profession or field of service; and

	WHEREAS, Maria "Cuca" Montecel developed the Intercultural
	Development Research Association, which produced pioneering
	work, using her research, on the high school dropout rates of
	Latinos; she is credited with having developed the prototypical
	methodology for measuring attrition; and

	WHEREAS, Cuca works with educational institutions to
	inspire and encourage women to further their education, and she
	is recognized as a Hispanic Influential by Hispanic Business; and

	WHEREAS, Cuca Montecel has also been recognized by the
	National Association for Bilingual Education, and she is highly
	respected for her dedication to her work and for her unique
	accomplishments in her field; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
	Legislature, hereby commend Maria R. Montecel for her
	exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to her on
	her induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame; and, be
	it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
