| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Don Haynes, band director at Lyndon Baines Johnson High | ||
| School, who is retiring at the close of the 2014-2015 school year | ||
| after 39 years of exceptional service; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Don Haynes joined the staff of Lyndon Baines | ||
| Johnson High School right after his graduation from The | ||
| University of Texas; over the last four decades, he has shaped an | ||
| award-winning band program that has earned widespread | ||
| recognition for excellence; and | ||
| WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mr. Haynes has done more than | ||
| foster the talents of young musicians; he has fed students when | ||
| they lacked food, chauffeured them when they lacked | ||
| transportation, and mentored them when they needed guidance; his | ||
| students have performed at events throughout the nation and have | ||
| had opportunities to perform at overseas locations, including | ||
| the Great Wall of China; and | ||
| WHEREAS, As a testament to his extraordinary career, he | ||
| once shared tea with Lady Bird Johnson to prepare for his | ||
| students' role in the groundbreaking of the Lady Bird Johnson | ||
| Wildflower Center; in 2007, the Austin Independent School | ||
| District named the Lyndon Baines Johnson High School theater in | ||
| his honor; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Don Haynes truly loves his work and remains | ||
| dedicated to the success of his students; he has long held the | ||
| respect and admiration of colleagues and young musicians | ||
| throughout the state, and he leaves behind an exceptional legacy | ||
| of service; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Don Haynes on his outstanding career | ||
| as band director at Lyndon Baines Johnson High School and extend | ||
| to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
