| WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mesquite are visiting the | ||
| State Capitol on April 11 and 12, 2017, and this occasion provides a | ||
| fitting opportunity to recognize this notable group; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, | ||
| Leadership Mesquite was created to educate civic-minded | ||
| individuals about city, county, and state government; the course | ||
| lasts nine months and involves citizens representing a wide range | ||
| of backgrounds and perspectives; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Leadership Mesquite works in cooperation with | ||
| such entities as the Mesquite Economic Development Board, the | ||
| Dallas County Commissioners Court, the Mesquite Independent | ||
| School District, and Eastfield College to sponsor different | ||
| programs every month to help members gain a better understanding | ||
| of the community; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Each Leadership Mesquite class chooses a special | ||
| project to benefit the community; this year, the group is working | ||
| with Read Play Talk, a research-based community-supported | ||
| initiative to champion early childhood literacy among Mesquite | ||
| Independent School District students; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through its efforts to promote a spirit of | ||
| volunteerism and community pride, Leadership Mesquite is | ||
| fostering an informed and engaged citizenry, and the program is | ||
| helping to build a brighter and more prosperous future for the | ||
| Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby recognize April 11 and 12, 2017, as | ||
| Leadership Mesquite Days at the State Capitol and extend to all | ||
| those participating sincere best wishes for a memorable and | ||
| enjoyable visit. | ||
