| McKinley Jackson, Sr. | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
| commemorates the life of the Reverend McKinley Jackson, Sr., who | ||
| died February 26, 2013, at the age of 83; and | ||
| WHEREAS, McKinley Jackson was born January 19, 1930, in | ||
| Dallas; he graduated from Lincoln High School and served his | ||
| nation in the military; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He received his call to the ministry at the age of | ||
| 17 and preached his first sermon at Mount Carmel Baptist Church; | ||
| he went on to serve as pastor at Elam Grove Baptist Church in | ||
| Mabank, Muddy Creek Baptist Church in Quitman, and Bethlehem | ||
| Baptist Church in Terrell; he then assumed the leadership of | ||
| Samaria Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where he remained for the | ||
| last 33 years and where he had a profound influence on the lives | ||
| of countless people; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In addition to his work in the ministry, Pastor | ||
| Jackson acted as a community activist for social and racial | ||
| justice and was a member of numerous civic and political | ||
| organizations; he served as a member of the Fort Worth City | ||
| Council representing District 5 and was president of the Terrell | ||
| Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of | ||
| Colored People; he was active in the Boy Scout program and held | ||
| leadership positions in numerous religious organizations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Pastor | ||
| Jackson gave unselfishly to others, and his generosity, his wise | ||
| counsel, and his ability to provide enlightenment and hope to his | ||
| congregation will not be forgotten; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was a | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
| 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the | ||
| bereaved family of the Reverend McKinley Jackson, Sr.; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the | ||
| Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do | ||
| so in memory of McKinley Jackson, Sr. | ||
