SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 550
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Fernando A. Salinas
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Fernando A. Salinas,
  who died February 10, 2011, at the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, Fernando A. Salinas was born in Laredo on March 4,
  1924; a 1942 graduate of Martin High School, he attended Texas
  A&M University and Tulane University; and
         WHEREAS, He returned to Laredo to pursue his lifelong
  passion for the fashion industry and began his career at his
  father's downtown store, Los Dos Laredos; in 1952, he established
  his own business, Don Antonio's Menswear, which soon became known
  for its high-end men's designer clothing; it also gained fame for
  its wide selection of hats, which became a trademark feature in
  the personal style of Mr. Salinas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Salinas was a devout Catholic who practiced
  his faith in his daily life; he was a parishioner of both Saint
  Peter the Apostle Church and San Agustin Cathedral and he
  supported numerous charitable organizations in Laredo; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his good humor, his wit, and his
  warmth and enthusiasm will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, He was beloved by his large and devoted extended
  family, and he will long be remembered for his generous spirit
  and his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Fernando A. Salinas; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Fernando A. Salinas.
