| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize the Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club, which is | ||
| celebrating 100 years of community service on January 9, 2016; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club was | ||
| established in 1916, one year prior to the founding of Lions | ||
| International, and it is the oldest continuously operating Lions | ||
| Club in the world; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The club's members follow a very simple motto, "We | ||
| Serve," and they have been living up to that promise for a | ||
| century; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In its early years, the club focused on efforts | ||
| supporting World War I, such as selling war bonds and raising | ||
| funds for the Red Cross; today, the club continues to be a | ||
| resource in times of crisis, while regularly promoting a broad | ||
| range of local and regional initiatives; the chapter has gained | ||
| recognition for its extensive volunteer work benefiting students | ||
| of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Members of the Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club | ||
| uphold a proud tradition of community service and promote the | ||
| values of good citizenship; they are indeed deserving of | ||
| recognition for their many contributions to the city and the | ||
| region; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Austin Downtown | ||
| Founder Lions Club for their invaluable contributions to the | ||
| community and extend congratulations to all as they celebrate 100 | ||
| years of service; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
