	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
	recognize Commander Robert R. Avitia for his many years of
	outstanding service with the Brownsville Police Department; and
	WHEREAS, Highly respected by his colleagues, Commander
	Avitia is well known for his dedication to his profession and for
	his superior courage and leadership; and
	WHEREAS, Commander Avitia began his career with the
	Brownsville Police Department in 1975, and he has since served in
	nearly every capacity within the department, from a patrolman in
	the Patrol Division to an investigator in the Criminal
	Investigations Division; and
	WHEREAS, He has served as supervisor of Juvenile Services
	in the Juvenile Section of the Detective Division and as the
	department's Public Information Officer; he has also served in
	the Administrative Services Division and in the Emergency
	Communications Center; and
	WHEREAS, He was promoted to sergeant in 1983 and took on
	duties as a shift supervisor; in 2003, he was assigned to the
	Office of Community Affairs, Southmost Community Network Center,
	and in 2004, he was appointed to the position of police commander
	and assigned to the Professional Standards Command, where he has
	served since then; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout his exceptional career, Commander
	Avitia has manifested uncommon talent in managing the
	far-reaching responsibilities of a police officer, and he is
	admired by citizens throughout the community for his high
	standards and professionalism; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
	Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Commander Robert
	R. Avitia on his exceptional career with the Brownsville Police
	Department and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years
	ahead; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
