| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Commander Robert R. Avitia for his many years of | ||
| outstanding service with the Brownsville Police Department; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Highly respected by his colleagues, Commander | ||
| Avitia is well known for his dedication to his profession and for | ||
| his superior courage and leadership; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Commander Avitia began his career with the | ||
| Brownsville Police Department in 1975, and he has since served in | ||
| nearly every capacity within the department, from a patrolman in | ||
| the Patrol Division to an investigator in the Criminal | ||
| Investigations Division; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He has served as supervisor of Juvenile Services | ||
| in the Juvenile Section of the Detective Division and as the | ||
| department's Public Information Officer; he has also served in | ||
| the Administrative Services Division and in the Emergency | ||
| Communications Center; and | ||
| WHEREAS, He was promoted to sergeant in 1983 and took on | ||
| duties as a shift supervisor; in 2003, he was assigned to the | ||
| Office of Community Affairs, Southmost Community Network Center, | ||
| and in 2004, he was appointed to the position of police commander | ||
| and assigned to the Professional Standards Command, where he has | ||
| served since then; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Throughout his exceptional career, Commander | ||
| Avitia has manifested uncommon talent in managing the | ||
| far-reaching responsibilities of a police officer, and he is | ||
| admired by citizens throughout the community for his high | ||
| standards and professionalism; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Commander Robert | ||
| R. Avitia on his exceptional career with the Brownsville Police | ||
| Department and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years | ||
| ahead; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
