	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 533
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
	recognize Corporal Rene Garcia Gonzalez for his courageous
	service during the Vietnam War; and
	WHEREAS, Rene Gonzalez answered the call to serve his
	country in 1967 by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps;
	he served with distinction as a machine gunner and rifleman with
	the 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division; and
	WHEREAS, During his Vietnam tour, he survived numerous
	ambushes and battles while participating in some of the harshest
	combat in the war; he was ultimately wounded in action on June 6,
	1968, during the third day of assault by the North Vietnamese
	Army at Landing Zone Loon; and
	WHEREAS, Corporal Gonzalez is a proud and dedicated
	veteran who is a lifelong member of the Military Order of the
	Purple Heart, an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
	and the Disabled American Veterans, and a lifelong member of the
	Third Marine Division Association; and
	WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to the
	men and women who take up arms in our defense, and Corporal
	Gonzalez is indeed deserving of recognition for enduring the
	hardships of war with courage and tenacity; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
	Legislature, hereby commend Corporal Rene Garcia Gonzalez for his
	patriotic service on behalf of the nation during the Vietnam War
	and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
