| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| join Texans and veterans across the state in celebrating the | ||
| third anniversary of the dedication of the Texas Capitol Vietnam | ||
| Veterans Monument; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument was | ||
| dedicated on March 29, 2014, before a crowd of nearly 5,000 | ||
| citizens, veterans, and Texas leaders; its construction was made | ||
| possible by the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 36 during | ||
| the 79th Legislative Session and by the hard work and dedication | ||
| of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument Committee; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Situated on the Capitol's northeast lawn, this | ||
| impressive monument pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of | ||
| the thousands of Texans who served the country in Vietnam; more | ||
| than 3,400 Texans made the ultimate sacrifice in the war and more | ||
| than 100 are still listed as missing in action; 17 Texans | ||
| received the Medal of Honor for their distinguished bravery and | ||
| service above and beyond the call of duty; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Vietnam War was one of the longest armed | ||
| conflicts in American history, and the Texans who fought in | ||
| battles at Pleiku, Ia Drang, Bien Hoa, Khe Sanh, and other | ||
| notable engagements have taken their place among the long line of | ||
| courageous men and women who have left a lasting mark on the | ||
| world; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend all those who contributed to the | ||
| planning and dedication of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans | ||
| Monument and pay tribute to the Texans who served in the Vietnam | ||
| War; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of the third anniversary of the monument's dedication. | ||
